Anas Sarwar MP (Glasgow Central) says he is “sceptical” about the Scottish Government’s position over the census.

In an email to a constituent,  he wrote:

“… I have very serious concerns about CACI’s involvement with the Scottish Census. These concerns aren’t new. I raised these very issues over a year ago when the contract was agreed. There was media coverage at that time and also questions in the Scottish Parliament in relation to it. At that time, the Scottish Government said it was in no position to break the contract but that they would put in place mechanisms to minimise access to individual information.

“I must say I am very sceptical of this position. Let me also be clear this should be a concern not just for individuals of a certain faith but for anybody who believes in protecting human rights.

As I am sure you are aware this is an issue for the Scottish Parliament and not for Westminster, so you are quite right to have contacted your local MSP and requested a response.

“I will continue to press my colleagues in the Scottish Parliament to voice their deep concerns with this contract.

” I trust this is of assistance.”
